Salient Books is a small, family-run indie micro-publisher based in Nottingham, UK, operated by husband and wife team, Wayne and Helen Osborne. Founded in 2009 to publish Wayne's works on The Great War, Salient Books now also publishes titles by friends and family, as well as reprints of out-of-print books. While our books may not be easily found in bookshops or online stores, they can be purchased directly from us.
Wayne & Helen have been married since 1994. Their daughter, Abigail, passed away just after her 15th birthday in 2020 after a 3½-year battle with leukaemia.
Wayne worked in industry before teaching in primary schools for 15 years. He then pursued his academic interests, earning a Masters in First World War Studies from Birmingham University (2008) and a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering History (focusing on munitions production in Great War) from Loughborough University (2013).
Helen worked in administration for the local council for over 30 years until she lost her job as a direct result of Abigail's illness. Since Salient Books was set up she has managed book preparation tasks like proof-reading, formatting, and cover design. Additionally, Helen creates and sells bags, purses and more made from pre-loved denim at Helen Made Me and can be contacted at helenmadethis17@gmail.com.

A note about publishing with us:
Currently, we have a limited capacity to take on additional authors alongside our own writing, research, and publishing commitments. Please note we assist with producing and getting books into print and we charge for our work. We don't offer or pay advances. Authors must manage their own publicity and sales.
