Salient Books is a small, family-run indie micro-publisher based in Nottingham, UK, operated by husband and wife team, Wayne and Helen Osborne. Founded in 2009 to publish Wayne's works on The Great War, Salient Books now also publishes titles by friends and family, as well as reprints of out-of-print books. While our books may not be easily found in bookshops or online stores, they can be purchased directly from us.
Wayne & Helen have been married since 1994. Their daughter, Abigail, passed away just after her 15th birthday in 2020 after a 3½-year battle with leukaemia.
Wayne worked in industry before teaching in primary schools for 15 years. He then pursued his academic interests, earning a Masters in First World War Studies from Birmingham University (2008) and a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering History (focusing on munitions production in Great War) from Loughborough University (2013).
Helen worked in administration for the local council for over 30 years until Abigail's illness led to her job loss. She now manages book preparation tasks like proof-reading, formatting, and cover design for Salient Books. Additionally, Helen creates and sells up-cycled denim accessories at Helen Made Me and can be contacted at helenmadethis17@gmail.com.

A note about publishing with us:
Currently, we have a limited capacity to take on additional authors alongside our own writing, research, and publishing commitments. Please note we assist with producing and getting books into print and we charge for our work. We don't offer or pay advances. Authors must manage their own publicity and sales.
